Newsletter for April 2014, Radio Program and Course

Shalom Everyone,

I want to make some announcements to begin with followed by a short message. I trust all of you are gearing up for Shabbat and the Chametz is quickly being consumed or leaving your house. Due to the Second Seder being on Tuesday night the 15th, we will postpone Chavurah till Wednesday the 17th. If you are in the southeast Texas area and you would like to attend our public Seder (Tuesday night), you are more than welcome. Just send us an email letting us know as well as how many will be in your party. hatikvamin@hatikva.org.

New Radio Program on the Temple

Announcing a new weekly radio program about the Temple with Joseph Good.  “Measure the Pattern” will air each week at 5 to 6 PM Central Time on Hebrew Nation Radio.  Joseph will be interviewed by Gene Porter on a different topic weekly concerning all aspects of the Temple. The first program begins this Sunday, April 6th with the topic “The Command to Build.” The following Sunday we will discuss “Passover in the Temple”. Help us to spread the word and join with us. http://hebrewnationonline.com/ We will be posting podcasts of the program weekly on https://jerusalemtemplestudy.com/. The format of the program is designed for listeners to call in with questions and  comments. The number is 503-967-3001. Please let your friends know about this program.

Gene Porter, my co-host had this to say about the upcoming program.

“Let me give you the details, which apparently didn’t make it through on the share. Starting this Sunday (4/6), Joseph Good is going to start a regular Sunday show at 3 pm Pacific on hebrewnationradio.com entitled “Measure the Pattern.” This show will focus on the Temple and everything associated with it (which, incidentally, will include everything about what we believe!). It will be chock full of information that you never imagined about the Temple, and I promise that it will NEVER be boring! We will take call-ins at 503-967-3001. Be there — it will be worth it!”

Itching Ears

I was speaking with a close friend the other day and we were discussing some of the teachings that while popular and exciting in their content have no validity to their message. The scripture says that “My people perish due to lack of knowledge.” One of our greatest faults is that we have not taught people how to study and search out the truth. Too often, we cannot wait to share the latest buzz on the Internet. We must learn to be careful with the word of G-d. For some time I have been posting questions on the Temple and the Festivals. One thing is apparent, while some have been very accurate in their answers, the majority have not known the answers. These are the basic understandings that we should as believers have. A major question for each of you. Should you know the Temple, its layout, ceremonies, rules, and procedures? Is this, in fact, essential to a fuller understanding of the scriptures? My answer is “yes,”without a doubt. My goal is to bring these understandings to our students in a systematic program of study. This would include learning how to study the Temple, learning how to use the sources, and how to formulate these studies into meaningful understandings. I plan on taking the material we present in the radio program “Measure the Pattern” and formulate this into a study course. If you would be interested in this let me know in the comments section. The course will be a commitment of work on my part and those that choose to follow this course of study. We will make it available for our Gold members. Pray about it and let me know. Hopefully we will be able to separate fact from itching ears.

The Sources

To learn the Temple these are your primary sources.

The Tanach and New Testament

The Rabbinic Sources:

                The Mishnah

                The Tosefta

                Talmud Bavli

                Talmud Yerushalmi

Josephus

The Letter of Aristeas

If you do not have these sources, see what you can find on the Internet as a free download. I will give sections for you to read and we will discuss some of these items in this newsletter and in written articles. This is not the course, but a starting point. Word of caution, do not pay much attention to most of the Christian sources on the Temple. Most of them are not very good. First step: build your resources.

Joe

joe, as you would probably expect, i salivate at the thought of the temple study courses you are proposing.
was wondering if you will be teaching/lecturing at all OR if i will be studying on-my- own. by that , i mean reading only.
this vision issue is a major obstacle for me now. i do still read, but it is arduous and laborious. slow plodding work.
that translates ,i guess ,to how long between lessons, how much time will i have to get the materials all read. im not worried about understanding, just by all the texts. many i will know, because i have kept up with your teachings so many years and my own passion for the Temple. can i do this do you think? shalom, shalom dianna

    1. Joe Good

Shalom Dianna, it will be a mixture of both. There will be a 2 hour video for each class. There are 13 classes per course. There are 8 courses. Each class will have text to read but you can go at your own pace. There will also be a Glossary of terminology in regards to each class and then a multiple choice test. Most of the text you will already be familiar with.

Shalom Marilyn, Thanks for your comment. We are working on getting the course ready and I believe it is going to be tremendous. I do appreciate you letting me know that this is an interest of yours.

Shalom Claude, Hag Sameach, The program live is on Sunday afternoons at 4 PM your time. I am working on the first lesson to publish for course on the Temple. I will also film for each lesson.

Excellent, my wife and I will start searching out these sources online~

Shalom Chad, When you get the Mishnah you want to read Middot first, followed by Tamid, and then Yoma. You also might want to read Pesachim as Passover is next week. Ne sure to use the notes to each Mishnah that will be in the book to help you with the understandings. some of these notes will be wrong but by far they will help you in starting to understand how these texts are worded. Debbie and I wrote a book several years ago called “A Concise Guide to the Mishnah and Tosefta. It is about 250 pages in length and has charts coordinating the Parashot with the various tractates as well as an extensive glossary.

I learned about ‘you’ from Hebrew Nation Radio in an interview with Diana Dye. She is a favorite teacher of mine! I can only be a bronze member with Hatikva at this time, but praying over all membership partnerships, mostly praying that our membership funds actually help you [!].
    Shalom,
    JoAnne [Stanley]

Shalom JoAnne, thank you for your comment. I pray that the site is a constant blessing to you. Let me assure you that we are praying that the memberships allow us to have financial stability which we have lacked for years. We also hope that we can provide materials of value to all or our members that will enrich their understandings of Hashem and His word. Today, on Hebrew Nation Radio I am starting a new weekly program on the Temple. It will be at 5 PM Central time. Adjust this time to where you live. The topic will be “The command to build the Temple.” Hope you can listen.

Have ordered more material from Hatikvah, but still can’t find that pesky rooster. is it gimel, vav, resh?? Your radio/itunes podcast is a tsunami of information. Enjoying it all!

Shalom JoAnne, Thank you for the comment. I started preparing a document for you yesterday on the Gever yesterday. I will finish it today and email it to you. It was a pleasure speaking with you and I wish all students had your zeal and would seek to establish everything.

    Hi Joe,
Myron and I would be interested in a course on the Temple. Thanks, Sharon

    1. Joe Good

Shalom Myron and Sharon, Thanks. I am preparing the Study Course now. I think it will be intense and good. Today we start our Radio Program on the Temple at 5 PM Central Time. Hebrewnationradio.com. Did you see the Brochure on the Warfare Trip to Israel. It is on Hatikva.org.

  8. lbranam

    Shalom Joe,

I would be interested in studying the course on the Temple. I will be watching for the announcement.

    Shalom,
    James

    1. Joe Good

Shalom James, thanks for the reply. Do you have any of the resources that I mentioned? You can do a search for the Blackman Mishnah in a pdf file on line. It is not my favorite Mishnah but will certainly do. The best of the Mishnayot to buy in my opinion is the Kehati. You can buy individual volumes. The most important to have are the Tractates Tamid, Middot and Yoma. The best Josephus to have is the Loeb Classical Library. Most of the Volumes (there are about 12 or 13) are available as pdf files on line. The Letter of Aristeas is all over the internet. Start building your library and we will go into how to use these resources to compliment what you have in your Bible.

Also be sure to catch the program this Sunday on Hebrew Nation Radio. We will be talking on the command to build. If you miss it we will be posting the program within a week here on Jerusalem Temple Study.
