Joe, thanks for the Docuementation. Do you know if there was a non- priestly and a priestly San Hedrin in Jerusalem? Was Gamaliel the Nasi of one and Ciaphas the other?

Shalom BenEmmet, Here is what I know at this time. This is evolving and will develop as we really begin to search this out. There are people that have a much fuller understanding than me on this at this time. There was only one Sanhedrin Gedolah. The Nasi was always (except for a short period late in the First Century when Elazar ben Azariah served as Nasi due to Shimon ben Gamaliel having been impeached for a small period of time). The Kohen Gadol was not necessarily a member of the Sanhedrin. However within the Sanhedrin a number of members where Kohanim. They handled directly matters that were in the domain of the Kohanim. The High Priest had there own courts and controlled the Temple Police. It seems that these courts of the High Priest frequently exceeded their powers and operated in competition with the Sanhedrin.

Joe, my students were also asking me for the sources for the cleansing of the Temple. You said you had gathered them for your caller, mr. Ward I believe.May I also have them please.
Todah and Great show. Also, I think you may have misspoke on a prior show when a caller asked who prophesied the year of Yehoshua’s death. You said Gamaliel but it would have been Caiphas correct?
Was There a non- priestly and a priestly San Hedrin or just One in Yerusaliem?

Shalom BenEmmet, you are right. It was Caiphas rather than Gamaliel. I meant to correct the mistake in the last radio program but forgot. I am emailing you the material on the cleansing of the Temple. This is taken from a book I wrote on the Corner Buildings of the Temple. Thanks for the comment.
      Joe
